During Digikala’s Black Friday campaign, a technical error in the online sales system of this store led to the sale of five Peugeot 207 cars, each at a price of one million Tomans; While according to the initial plan, only one car was going to be sold at this price. This incident caused a loss of billions for Digikala and caused widespread reactions in the media.
In the press conference, the details of the story of the wrong sale of cars in the Black Friday campaign were described. According to Alireza Tabatabai, the main goal of this campaign was to provide significant discounts and a different experience for users, including the sale of a Peugeot 207 machine at a symbolic price of one million Tomans.
But at the moment of implementing this offer, the sales system was disrupted and instead of one person, five users managed to register an order and buy a car at the same price. This technical error caused Digikala to suffer a financial loss of more than 5 billion tomans. Tabatabai further explained that after detailed investigations, the technical team has also identified two automatic shopping robots among buyers; Robots that were able to enter the purchase process at a specific moment using programming scripts.
He emphasized that Digikala’s goal of implementing this campaign was to create real opportunities for human users and not to reward bots or abusers. However, the company decided to stick to its commitment and deliver the cars to the buyers.
