The press conference of “Rayan” international programming and artificial intelligence competitions was held with the presence of Hossein Afshin, the president’s vice president for science, technology and knowledge-based economy. Explaining the scientific and international aspects of these competitions, he announced the participation of 137 countries in the preliminary stage and 100 participants from 25 countries to the final stage and emphasized that this event has been able to be placed next to the most prestigious international competitions in this field in a short period of time.
An event to promote Iran’s scientific authority
At the beginning of the meeting, Afshin explained the goals of the competition and stated that “Rayan” was designed with the focus of promoting specialized knowledge, strengthening human capital, international networking and achieving scientific authority. He added that this round of competitions will be held with the support of the Scientific Vice President and hosted by Sharif University of Technology.
Participation of 30 thousand people from 137 countries in the preliminary stage
Referring to the global scope of the competitions, the President’s scientific deputy stated:
“The preliminary stage last year was held with the participation of more than 30,000 people from 137 countries of the world, and the selected ones of this stage will travel to Tehran from December 4 to 8 to participate in the final round of the World Finals.”
He described the global reception of these competitions as “unprecedented” and explained that this level of participation shows the scientific status of the event and its role in the development of scientific interactions.
The final stage with the presence of 100 participants from 25 countries
Afshin stated that in the final stage, about 100 participants from 25 countries will be present; Countries including the United States, Russia, China, Italy, India, Argentina, Chile, Singapore, Australia, Serbia, Ethiopia, Ukraine, Taiwan, Iran and Kazakhstan.
He emphasized that despite the newness of this event, “Ryan” has become one of the most prestigious global competitions, along with ICPC and the International Computer Olympiads.

In the field of artificial intelligence: more than 4600 people in the form of 735 teams from 65 countries
He added that this statistic shows the impact and scientific acceptance of the event at the global level.
90% of foreign participants; Iran’s 10% share
Referring to the geographical composition of the participants, Afshin said:
“More than 90% of the participants of the preliminary stage were from foreign countries.”

Europe: 46 countries
Africa: 24 countries
North America: 10 countries
South America: 8 countries
Oceania: 11 countries
He considered the global reception as a sign of the world’s scientific community’s trust in Iran’s capabilities in the field of new technologies.

Special training courses for 3400 people
In the continuation of the meeting, referring to the side scientific programs of the competitions, Afshin explained that scientific committees were formed with the presence of prominent professors and specialized training courses were offered.
He stated:
In the field of artificial intelligence, two courses “Introduction to machine learning and deep learning” and “Reliability in deep learning” were held, in which more than 3400 people participated.
In the field of programming, the courses “Familiarization with programming competitions” and “Advanced programming” were held with the participation of about 1000 people, and due to the reception, both courses were repeated after six months.
Holding competitions in 10 provinces of the country
In the final part of the meeting, Afshin, referring to the development of competitive access inside Iran, stated:
“One of our main goals was to create equal opportunities for enthusiasts across the country; For this reason, 10 national competitions were held in 10 provinces to enable wider participation.
