The members of the YouTube channel Not From Concerate have recely published a video in which they fit the standard and large version of the PlayStation 5 console in a compact 6-liter case.
While the base version of PlayStation 5 has a volume of about 10.4 liters, the slim model with a removable disk drive is only about 7.5 liters. So, although you lose the special white fins of the device, a lot of space is freed up around your TV. This is the latest project of this channel, but it is not the first attempt to miniaturize the PlayStation 5. In this new version, the console supports full-size M2 form factor SSDs, resulting in a much larger storage capacity. In addition, the mini version not only runs cooler but consumes less power than the original model.
In the tests conducted, the standard PlayStation 5 console usually consumed between 230 and 235 watts of electricity and its temperature reached an average of 59 degrees Celsius, but in the reduced version, the energy consumption was reduced to less than 220 watts and the average temperature reached about 50 degrees Celsius.
The secret to this smaller version’s success is a 3D-pried fan housing with a larger iake and deeper channels for air circulation. This piece is so large that it was pried in four sections and then glued together. In addition, the use of a neoprene gasket to preve hot air from returning and several Noctua fans have significaly reduced the temperature.
For less than $11, the channel provides users with a digital file coaining an illustrated guide, STL files for 3D priable parts, and a complete list of hardware parts.
