Microsoft’s artificial intelligence unit has said that the company’s efforts to achieve super artificial intelligence will prioritize human safety.
According to The Verge, Mustafa Suleiman, the head of Microsoft’s artificial intelligence department, announced that a new team has been formed in the company whose goal is to develop “humanistic super-artificial intelligence”, that is, a model of artificial intelligence that is designed only to serve humanity.
Microsoft prioritizes human safety in the development of cloud artificial intelligence
According to Suleiman, this type of super artificial intelligence is not supposed to be an unlimited and uncontrolled entity with high degrees of autonomy; Rather, it should be carefully adjusted, within the framework and with limitations. Suleiman joined Microsoft last year as CEO of Artificial Intelligence. This department has recently released its first internal models for producing text, sound and image.
Suleiman said: “In Microsoft’s artificial intelligence department, we believe that humans are more important than artificial intelligence. Our Humanistic AI Cloud puts humans at the center of the picture. This artificial intelligence is on humanity’s team; A subordinate and controllable artificial intelligence, an intelligence that cannot and will not open Pandora’s box.
Although Sulaiman said that Microsoft is denying reports of a race to achieve artificial general intelligence (AGI), the competition between the company and OpenAI has become very intense. According to the new agreement between Microsoft and OpenAI, Microsoft can now pursue AGI development independently, alone or in collaboration with third parties. Microsoft is also perfectly legally entitled to use OpenAI’s intellectual property to develop its own AGI and try to win the competition.
Mustafa Suleiman’s vision for a humanistic AI super-intelligence will have three main uses, including acting as an AI companion that helps people learn, act, be productive and feel supported, provide assistance and support to the health industry, and create new scientific advances in the field of clean energy.
