Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is set to release a commercial version of LLaMA, its open source Large Language Model (LLM) that uses artificial ielligence to generate text, images and code. Developers can use this open source model to build their own artificial ielligence applications.
According to Hoshio, LLaMA stands for Large Language Model Meta AI, a technology that was publicly iroduced in February as a small base model and made available to researchers and academics.
Now, the Financial Times reports that Meta is ready to release a commercial version of the model, which will enable developers and businesses to build their own applications using the base model.
Because the LLaMA model is an open-source AI technology, commercial access to it enables businesses of all sizes to adapt and improve AI io their systems, accelerating technological innovation across sectors and poteially leading to stronger and more effective AI models that are better at understanding and processing data.
Developers can use open source LLM (open source models are models whose tool code is available to the public to use and modify as they wish) to build AI applications such as ChatGPT. These models are useful for startups or businesses that wa to use artificial ielligence technology to improve their services or ieract more effectively with customers.
LLaMA Meta is available in 7, 13, 33 and 65 billion parameters, compared to LLM ChatGPT AI model, GPT-3.5, which has 175 billion parameters. OpenAI did not say how many parameters the GPT-4 model has, but it is estimated to have more than 1 trillion parameters. The more parameters an artificial ielligence model has, the more complex it is and can better understand the input and produce a suitable output.
OpenAI is currely leading the AI race with ChatGPT, its AI chatbot that revolutionized generative AI when it was released in November. Microsoft has invested a lot of money in OpenAI. The tech gia uses GPT-4 technology equipped with artificial ielligence in Bing’s search engine and powering image creation. Google also has its own artificial ielligence chatbot, Bard and LLMs, although none of these systems are open source.
Although open source AI models already exist, the commercial launch of LLaMA Meta is an importa step in this direction, as it is larger than many open source LLMs on the market, while also being owned by one of the largest technology companies in the world. data preseation
The launch means Meta will compete directly with Microsoft-backed OpenAI and Google, and that competition could mean significa advances in artificial ielligence. Closed or proprietary software, such as that used in OpenAI’s ChatGPT, has drawn criticism regarding transparency and security.
