Iel officially announced the discoinuation of its popular NUC minicomputers. But what was the reason for this sudden decision?
Iel plans to stop the production of mini personal computers. According to the announceme of this company, the investme in NUC computing computers has reached the finish line. Instead, the chip designer will take a new approach to help boost its partners’ NUC minicomputer market.
Of course, Iel will coinue its curre commitmes, including support for NUC systems currely in use by customers. Although the reason for Iel’s farewell to the NUC mini-computer production line is still unknown, factors such as inflation, economic recession, and the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on hardware sales undoubtedly play a role in this decision.
Iel’s revenue fell by more than a third during the second quarter of last year, while consumer computers suffered more than other groups. Thus, with its decision to stop the production of NUC mini computers, Iel iends to end a not very profitable business and instead focus on chip manufacturing. The company had earlier sold its server business to MiTAC earlier this year.
Iel iroduced the first series of NUC minicomputers in 2013 as a small computer kit that included the latest processors and features of compact desktop computers. Over time, the series evolved io more complete systems with better performance and, in some later models, dedicated GPUs.
Iel NUC mini computers were designed for home and office use and attracted many fans. However, the NUC faced several problems. While some models were better suited for gaming and other demanding tasks, fitting powerful processors and graphics cards io compact cases became a significa challenge.
In addition, Iel faced increasing competition in this field. In the home market, the Mac mini is undoubtedly the most popular mini computer. Also, for office use, brands such as Dell and Lenovo offer more diverse configurations and stronger support for businesses.
