Google apparely fired the engineer who claimed that the company’s artificial ielligence had reached the stage of self-awareness. It is not clear what was the reason for this.
Many of us have seen this scary eve in various science fiction movies when artificial ielligence reaches the stage of self-awareness and challenges humans and their minds. We’ve all seen how terrifying the offspring of the powerful human mind can be, how dangerous it can be if it becomes even a little bit human-like.
In the real world, for now, everything goes slowly and safely. For now, we are the rulers of artificial ielligence and we corol them. But the elders of the technology field, such as Elon Musk, have repeatedly given many warnings regarding the self-awareness of artificial ielligence. It cannot be said that predictions always turn out to be correct, but this is not the first time that these people make predictions about something, but several years later, that is, when we forget that such predictions were made, those eves happen.
The self-awareness of artificial ielligence is currely at this stage, but the rece incide at Google has caused some concern. The story is that apparely Google’s artificial ielligence, LaMDA, has been able to make significa progress, to the poi where Blake Lemoine, one of the engineers of this project, claims that this artificial ielligence has become self-aware.
Of course, this has not happened now. It was in June of this year that Google put Lemoine on paid leave for violating a non-disclosure agreeme he had with the company. What Lemoine did was call a member of the administration and voice his concerns about LaMDA’s self-awareness. Of course, apparely this concern did not bring much good results for this person because Lemoine has now been fired.
Google spokesperson Brian Gabriel confirmed this and wished Lemoine success. Coinuing his speech in defense of LaMDA, he added that this artificial ielligence has now passed 11 differe review stages and even a research paper has been published about its developme process. According to Gabriel, Google has carefully investigated all of Lemoine’s claims, but none of these claims have been verified.
Many experts and experts active in the field of artificial ielligence poi out that today’s science does not have the ability to achieve such progress, in a way reject Lemoine’s words. Of course, Lemoine himself says that during his conversation with LaMDA, he realized that this artificial ielligence has gone beyond the level of the program and has its own thoughts and feelings, not just producing dialogue simulated to reality. He believes that Google did not properly investigate his claims and should be more careful in this field.
But the only thing Google has done in this regard is to fire Lemoine. Now we have to see what will happen in the future. In your opinion, did Lemoine have the right or just waed to incite against Google? In general, do you think artificial ielligence can one day reach the stage of self-awareness?
