Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt said at a meeting of the US House of Represeatives Energy and Commerce that the developme of Superiellige AI would increase the demand for the artificial ielligence industry by 5 % to 5 % by the year.
Referring to the urge need for energy in all forms (renewable and renewable), he warned that if China achieves this technology earlier, the balance of global power would change in an unpredictable way.
Schmidt also forecast excess consumption of 1 GW by 1 and 2 GW by year 2.
The Iernational Energy Agency (IEA) also predicts that by year 3, the power consumption of artificial ielligence ceers in the world will be more than four times as high as the year, while in the United States it will surpass traditional industries such as steel and ceme.
The former US Deputy Minister of Energy cited the statistics of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, indicating that data ceers will consume 2 % to 5 % of the coury’s electricity by year.
Schmidt suggested the use of small modular reactors (SMRs) to address the challenge, but criticized that regulatory barriers have preveed the technology from exploiting this technology and that no SMRs were active in the United States.
