Although the official unveiling of the Niendo Switch 2 caused a lot of exciteme, it was a little disappoiing in terms of technical details. Despite the abundance of information we have about the Switch 2, we’re still waiting for Niendo to release detailed specifications.
Here, we’ll take a look at what we know so far about the Switch 2’s specs.
Overall size of the device
According to Niendo’s official specifications, the height of the original Niendo Switch model is about 4 inches and its length is 9.4 inches. By comparing the image of the new generation and the previous one, it seems that the Niendo Switch 2 is about 14% bigger. Therefore, the overall dimensions of the Switch 2 (including the Joy-Cons) will be approximately 4.5 inches high by 10.7 inches long.
Screen size
Reports indicate that the Niendo Switch 2 will be equipped with a larger 8-inch LCD screen. In comparison, the original Niendo Switch has a 6.2-inch screen and the OLED model has a 7-inch screen. According to the comparison images, the 8-inch screen claim for the Switch 2 seems reasonable. Of course, our measuremes show slightly smaller dimensions, about 7.8 inches, which is not much differe from the announced figures. Overall, the Switch 2’s screen is expected to be around 25 perce larger than the previous generation.
CPU/GPU
The Niendo Switch 2 console uses a custom Nvidia Tegra T239 chip. According to the analysis, the processing power of this chip is equal to previous generation consoles such as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, thanks to machine learning-based upscaling technology, the console is capable of upscaling 720p images up to 4K when docked.
Storage memory
Niendo has not yet announced the exact capacity of the Switch 2’s iernal memory. But like the previous generation, this console will support external memory cards to increase the storage space. While the Switch supported microSDHC and microSDXC (UHS-I) cards up to 2TB, the Switch 2 is rumored to support microSD Express cards with much higher read speeds and capacities up to 128TB.
Additionally, the Switch 2 is rumored to be equipped with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 iernal storage.
Ports
According to information published by Niendo and early rumors, the Niendo Switch 2 console will be equipped with ports for game cartridges, two USB-C ports and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Also, similar to the previous generation, a microSD card slot is embedded under the base of the console to increase storage space.
Other technical specifications
Niendo hasn’t yet released exact details about the Switch 2’s hardware specifications, such as screen resolution, power consumption, battery life, full charge time, and wireless capabilities. This section will be updated as new news is released.
