Recruiting a meta manager and focusing OpenAI on hardware
The hiring of Meta’s AR glasses director coincided with OpenAI’s investme in San Francisco-based robotics startup Physical Ielligence. The startup focuses on “bringing versatile AI to the physical world” and aims to do so by developing large-scale AI models and algorithms to power robots.
We generally know OpenAI for its famous chatbot, ChatGPT, but the hiring of Caitlin Kalinowski and an investme in the startup Physical Ielligence show that the company was to make and sell hardware as well.

Prior to OpenAI, Caitlin Kalinowski was Meta Hardware Director for almost 2 1/2 years and helped create Orion, formerly known as Project Nazare, as “the most advanced AR glasses”. Before leading the Orion project, Kalinowski worked on virtual reality headsets at Oculus Meta for more than nine years; Before that, he worked at Apple for nearly 6 years in the field of MacBook design, including the Pro and Air models.
Also, the famous former Apple designer, Jony Ive, is working with OpenAI to build an artificial ielligence device.
