Bard now Gemini It is called
Almost a year ago, Google unveiled the Bard chatbot. Bard was a response to the surprisingly rapid popularity of OpenAI's ChatGPT. Just like ChatGPT, Bard allowed you to ask questions in natural language and ask the chatbot to do things or create things in response. At the time, Bard was working on Google's AI model called PaLM 2.
In late 2023, Google announced a new major language model called Gemini to replace PaLM 2. Three versions of Gemini named Nano, Pro and Ultra are designed for differe users and differe systems. At that time, Bard moved from PaLM 2 to Gemini Pro.
Now, to further clarify its status as Google's ChatGPT competitor, Bard is rebranding as Gemini. This will make the service name and LLM kernel the same. This approach is similar to OpenAI's naming strategy where the ChatGPT service runs on a version of the GPT platform (currely GPT-4).
Because of this name change, access to Bard on the web also changes. You will no longer go to bard.google.com, but to gemini.google.com. It's a simple name change, so not much changes in the service itself, and Gemini is accessible wherever Bard is available. You can see the full list of languages and couries on Google's support page.
Android app release for artificial ielligence Gemini
For the past year, accessing Bard has been relatively simple: just open your browser and visit the site. You could do this on a laptop, desktop computer, mobile phone or any device that has a browser. However, using a browser-based tool on mobile is not very efficie, so Google has solved this problem by launching the Gemini app for Android.
The Gemini app offers all the Bard features you've been using for the past year. You can eer text, upload an image, use your voice to generate text, request image generation or write code, and more. The Gemini app still works based on the Gemini Pro model.
To download the Gemini app, you can use this link, which, of course, currely shows an error for many users that the desired location is not supported. Even using IP change services, this error does not go away. We have to see if this problem will be solved for the iended users in the coming days or not.
News from app Gemini To iOS is not
iPhone users will access Gemini through the Google app instead of a separate app. As you can see in the image above, after opening the Google app, iOS users can access Gemini artificial ielligence by using the icon located in the upper part of the app. It is not yet clear whether Google will eveually release a dedicated Gemini app for iOS or not.
Artificial ielligence Gemini It replaces Google Assista
By installing the Gemini app on your Android phone – of course, if you do not encouer a location error – Google offers you to replace this artificial ielligence with Google Assista. In other words, if you accept this option when you install the app and then follow the steps to activate Google Assista, you'll see the Gemini user ierface you see in the video above instead of Google Assista.
Google says Gemini can do many of the things you'd expect from the Google Assista. These tasks include making calls, setting timers and corolling smart home devices. However, the company acknowledged that Gemini can't fully replace some of Google Assista's core features, and is currely working on adding those features to Gemini in the future.
One of the obvious limitations of Gemini is the need for an iernet connection. Many Android phones can handle some Google Assista tasks offline, but not the Gemini. Similarly, if your iernet connection is slow, this will significaly affect your experience with Gemini. But on the other hand, Gemini AI can offer much more ieresting features.
Of course, even if you replace Google Assista, you can resume using it whenever you like. Note that this is only for mobile phones. Your other Google Assista-capable devices, such as smart speakers and smart displays, will coinue to use Google Assista and cannot be switched to Gemini.
Iroducing a paid and more advanced version called Gemini Advanced
As we said a little above, currely the free version of Gemini AI uses the Gemini Pro model. But today, Google has finally released the advanced version of this artificial ielligence called Ultra, which is not free. For people who have higher expectations from the AI model, this AI model is more attractive and is considered a direct competitor of GPT4.
To access this version of artificial ielligence, you have to pay $20 per moh, and with this, Google also provides you with 2 TB of storage space. In order to encourage more users to use this model, Google has announced that there is no need to pay for the first two mohs, although to take advaage of this benefit, you must eer credit card information.
