According to Mehr news agency, citing Reuters news agency, “Tricia McLaughlin”, the spokeswoman of the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), who is considered one of the most prominent figures of immigration suppression in the White House, plans to resign this week (in the coming days local time).
The spokesperson of the current US Department of Homeland Security has strongly supported and defended US President Donald Trump’s policy of deporting immigrants on social media and in press interviews and podcasts.
He had planned to step down in December, but decided to stay on after two US citizens were shot dead by immigration agents in Minnesota last month, sources told CBS News.
McLaughlin’s next move after leaving this position is unclear.
According to CBS, he is to be replaced by Fox News commentator Katie Zacharia.
So far, no specific reason for his resignation has been given to the media.
