According to RCO News Agency, citing BRICS TV, the press office of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia announced that the planting of saplings in 85 regions of the country will be implemented by the end of the year, and the total area of reforestation will reach more than 1.3 million hectares.
Alexander Kozlov, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Russia, announced that the most extensive reforestation operation will be carried out in Irkutsk province with 181,800 hectares. After that, the Republic of Yakutia with 158 thousand 900 hectares, Krasnoyarsk Territory with 158 thousand 600 hectares, Arkhangelsk province with 87 thousand 900 hectares and Vologda province with 85 thousand 600 hectares.
These measures are implemented in the framework of the federal project “Protection of forests” that started in 2019. This program includes collecting seeds of forest plants, raising seedlings, clearing land, preparing soil, planting and caring for trees. Also, from August to November, volunteers participate in planting saplings under the guidance of local forestry institutions in all regions of the country.
Other BRICS member countries also implement programs to preserve and restore forests. In Ethiopia, a green initiative has become a national movement and more than 48 billion seedlings have been planted; This action has increased the share of forest cover in this country from 17.2% to 23.6% in four years. According to the report of Fana Media Corporation, a partner of TV BRICS, about 7.5 billion saplings were planted in this country in 2025 alone, and plans to plant more than 54 billion saplings in 2026 are on the agenda.
In China, extensive environmental projects have been implemented, which, according to the news agency “Xinhua”, a partner of TV BRICS, has increased the area of forests by about 21.8 square kilometers. These measures have improved the living conditions of more than 70% of forest-dwelling bird species and provided them access to more suitable habitats.
In Chile, plans are being implemented for the protection of southern beech trees, which play an important role in the forest ecosystem of the southern hemisphere. According to “El Ciudadano”, a partner of TV BRICS, these trees provide habitat for various plant and animal species and play a role in soil formation and nutrient cycle. Between 2023 and 2025, about 13.5 kg of seeds have been collected from this species, which will help preserve its genetic diversity.
