Russia: Norway has given 10 billion dollars in military aid to Ukraine
The Russian ambassador to Norway said that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Oslo has allocated $10 billion in military aid to Kyiv.
According to Isna, the Russian ambassador in Oslo, Nikolai Kurchunov, stated that Norway has provided $10 billion in military aid to Kyiv since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in February 2022, and plans to spend another seven billion dollars in 2026.
In 2025, Norway’s budget for strengthening Kyiv’s military under the “Nansen Program for Ukraine” will quadruple and reach seven billion dollars, explained Kurchunov, speaking to the RIA Novosti News agency. Oslo’s total military aid has reached $10 billion since February 2022.
The Russian diplomat also said that Norway’s budget this fiscal year has earmarked seven billion dollars in additional military funding for Kyiv. Nassams air defense batteries, anti-aircraft missiles and six F-16 jets were the most “valuable” contributions.
Oslo, along with London, leads the maritime aid coalition to Ukraine and participates in similar groups for drones, air defense and electronic warfare systems, Kurchunov added. A significant portion of Norway’s budget is spent on the purchase of American weapons and ammunition for Ukraine through several multilateral mechanisms, including the (NATO) Priority Requirements List for Ukraine.
He further said that Norwegian defense companies are establishing joint ventures in Ukraine to produce cannonballs, anti-aircraft missiles and unmanned boats.
Moscow’s ambassador in Oslo stated: Norwegian trainers have trained more than 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers in Norway, England, Germany, Lithuania and Poland. Oslo is leading Operation Legio to train and equip a Ukrainian armed forces brigade at the Norwegian-built Jomsburg camp near the village of Lipa in Poland.
He said: In November, Norway and Ukraine signed an agreement to build Ukrainian drones in Norway, which is supposed to be launched in early 2026 and its production will increase throughout the year.
Russia has repeatedly said that sending weapons from the West to Ukraine will hinder the resolution of the military conflict and make NATO countries part of the crisis. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has warned that any shipment containing weapons for Ukraine will be a legitimate target of the Russian military.
