Starmer: Europe must overcome reliance on America in military affairs
The British Prime Minister said that European countries should end their reliance and dependence on American military support, and this can be achieved by strengthening cooperation among themselves.
According to Isna, British Prime Minister Kerr Starmer, who is scheduled to speak at the Munich Security Conference, said: “We are no longer the Britain of the Brexit era. Because we know that in dangerous times, we do not take control of the situation by introversion; Rather, we leave it and I will not let this happen.”
According to Tass News agency, Starmer also called for a more European NATO and added: “There is no security for England without Europe, and there is no security for Europe without England.” This is the lesson of history and today’s reality as well.
The British Prime Minister went on to say that he believes that Europe should replace excessive dependence on its transatlantic partner with greater regional cooperation.
“I am talking about a vision of European security and greater independence for the continent that does not mean the withdrawal of the United States, but that fully responds to the call for greater burden-sharing and rebuilds the relationships that have served us well,” he noted.
Starmer also described Europe as a “sleeping giant” and argued that the continent’s economy was 10 times larger than Russia’s.
The British Prime Minister also noted that taking such important decisions requires reaching a broad public consensus, so that far-right and far-left movements do not gain power by offering simplistic solutions.
