Russia and Ukraine agree to exchange 314 prisoners of war – Mehr News agency RCO News Agency
According to RCO News Agency, the special envoy of the US President announced that the representatives of Washington, Moscow and Kiev reached a final agreement during their recent meetings on the exchange of 314 prisoners of war.
The American official did not provide more details about when and how the agreement will be implemented, but described it as an important step towards reducing tensions between the two sides.
This agreement is announced while during the past months, negotiations related to the exchange of prisoners have been one of the few active channels of communication between Russia and Ukraine, and several rounds of limited exchanges have also been carried out with the mediation of different countries.
Russia and Ukraine have exchanged prisoners several times since the beginning of the conflict, and this issue is one of the few areas in which the two sides have had relative cooperation.
In recent months, the United States and some European countries have tried to facilitate the exchange of prisoners in order to reduce the severity of the humanitarian crisis caused by the war.
The last large-scale prisoner exchange between the two sides took place last year, during which hundreds of soldiers and civilians were released.
