According to RCO News Agency, quoted by Quds Press, Ali Shaath, the head of the National Committee for the Administration of the Gaza Strip, published a message on social networks and said: “Sunday, February 1, will be set aside as a trial day for the implementation of the working mechanisms of the Rafah Crossing in order to prepare the ground for its full operation the next day.”
At the same time, the authorities of the occupying Israeli regime also announced their decision to reopen the Rafah crossing from Sunday; The crossing has been closed for about 20 months. However, the regime has stipulated that outgoing and incoming passengers undergo “security checks”.
Channel 12 of the Israeli regime’s TV reported that “passenger traffic from the Gaza Strip will be carried out in full coordination with the Egyptian side and after obtaining a prior security permit from Israel.”
The network also added that the return to the Gaza Strip will be limited only to those who left the area during the war, and as such, the crossing will not be fully open to all groups.
On May 7, 2024, at the same time as the military attack on the city of Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip, the Zionist regime had completely blocked the Rafah crossing.
The Gaza Ministry of Health has announced that the closure of this crossing has resulted in the death of more than a thousand patients, and more than 22 thousand injured and sick people urgently need to travel outside the Gaza Strip for treatment.
In addition, the education of thousands of students who have received foreign scholarships has been disrupted due to the closure of the crossing.
