Mertes: It is impossible to deploy troops in Ukraine without Russia’s consent
The German chancellor said that the formation and deployment of multinational forces as part of security guarantees for Ukraine is impossible without Russia’s consent.
According to RCO News Agency, German Chancellor Friedrich Mertes said during a press conference on Thursday: “The arrangement of actions in the formation and deployment of multinational forces must be done with the consent of Russia.”
According to the Sputnik News agency, the German chancellor emphasized: “First, a ceasefire, then security guarantees for Ukraine, and then a long-term peace agreement with Russia must be established, and all this is impossible without Russia’s consent, which apparently we are still far from.”
“Nobody here, not a single EU member state or beyond, believes that we should go to Ukraine now to intervene in the ongoing conflict,” Mertes said.
He added: “We are only discussing military security for peace and for a ceasefire agreement.”
European leaders on Tuesday during a meeting in Paris focused on solving the crisis in Ukraine, emphasized the provision of security guarantees to this war-torn European country, and at the same time, signed a statement on the deployment of multinational forces in Ukraine for the future.
