Denmark’s warning to Trump – ISNA
Denmark’s prime minister has warned that the US president is “serious” about taking over Greenland and that if he attacks a NATO member state, “everything will stop”.
“Unfortunately, I think that when US President Donald Trump says he wants Greenland, it should be taken seriously,” Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said on Monday evening.
“I have made the position of the Kingdom of Denmark very clear, and Greenland has repeatedly said that it does not want to be part of the United States,” Frederiksen stressed in an interview with the official Danish media.
“If the United States attacks a NATO country, everything will stop,” he warned.
Denmark’s prime minister said that the country has always been a “good ally” and said, “Greenland is also part of NATO. You cannot enter the territory of another country and occupy a part of it. “The President of the United States actually wants to take control of part of the Commonwealth of Denmark, and of course, he shouldn’t.”
Earlier, US President Donald Trump claimed the increasing presence of Russia and China around Greenland and said that the US “needs Greenland for national security reasons”.
Jens Frederik Nielsen, the Prime Minister of Greenland, which is an autonomous island and part of the Danish territory, also considered the US President’s statements about the country’s need to control Greenland as “unacceptable and humiliating”.
