The reaction of the President of Colombia to the attacks on Caracas
The President of Colombia reacted to the airstrikes in Caracas in a message.
According to RCO News Agency, Colombian President Gustavo Petro wrote in this message on X: “Caracas has just been attacked.” This is a warning to the world.”
He continued to write: “Venezuela has just been attacked. They targeted Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, with their missiles. “The Organization of American States and the United Nations should hold a meeting immediately.”
In another message, Petro wrote: “Colombia has been a member of the United Nations Security Council since yesterday and should hold a meeting immediately.”
This condemnation was raised by the President of Colombia while the media and social media users reported today (Saturday) the occurrence of strong explosions in areas of Carcass, the capital of Venezuela.
The Associated Press reported that at least seven explosions and low-flying planes were heard around 2 a.m. local time in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela.
The Venezuelan government has not yet commented on this incident.
According to this report, these events occur while the US military has been targeting boats that it claims are involved in drug trafficking in recent days.
On Friday, Venezuela announced that it is ready to negotiate with the United States to combat drug trafficking. Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro also said that the United States is trying to change the country’s government and gain access to Venezuela’s huge oil reserves through months of pressure that began with the massive deployment of American military forces in the Caribbean Sea in August.
According to published images, explosions in Caracas occurred at the same time as the helicopters, which are said to be American, and columns of smoke can be seen in some areas.
