Holding a meeting of the working group to establish the secretariat of the Tehran Convention for the protection of the environment of the Caspian Sea
The working meeting of the special group for the establishment of the secretariat of the Tehran Convention for the protection of the environment of the Caspian Sea was held in Geneva on 27th and 28th of December 1404 with the presence of special representatives of the five Caspian coastal countries, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.
According to Isna, a delegation from our country led by “Kazem Gharibabadi”, the deputy of legal and international affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the special representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Caspian Sea affairs, and with the presence of representatives from the Environmental Protection Organization, participated in this meeting.
During this meeting, documents related to the establishment of the secretariat of the convention in the Caspian region, including agreements related to the administrative and financial structure, and the benefits and immunities of the secretariat and its employees, were reviewed and exchanged.
The temporary secretariat of the Tehran Convention under the supervision of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) is based in Geneva, Switzerland, and the establishment of the permanent secretariat and its establishment in the countries of the Caspian region is an important step in the direction of protecting this unique water area and strengthening regional cooperation.
