Meloni: Europe should accept the new security strategy of the Trump administration
Although the Italian Prime Minister called the US President’s new national security strategy “a wake-up call” for Europe, he said that the continent should accept this new security strategy.
According to RCO News Agency, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said during a party event in Rome on Sunday evening: “We want an Italian that is loyal to its partners but not subservient to anyone.”
According to Bloomberg News media, the Italian Prime Minister added: “This is why we have stood by Ukraine from the first day and this is why we will continue to do so; “For a sense of justice, but above all to defend our interests and national security.”
Meloni went on to say that the strategy of “Donald Trump” of the American President, which has frightened the European leaders, said: “Europe must accept this new security strategy.”
The recently released US National Security Strategy sent shockwaves across Europe as it accused European governments of “subverting democratic processes” and called on Europe to take responsibility for “defending itself”. The strategy also highlighted the problems of over-regulation, mass immigration and censorship in the EU.
“There is a concern because Donald Trump has clearly said that the United States is going to secede from the old continent and that Europeans need to organize to defend themselves on their own,” stressed Georgia Maloney.
He added: “What I can say is, good morning Europe! Good morning! For 80 years, we have entrusted our security to America, thinking that day would never come. “But most importantly, we pretend that the work or effort was free.”
The Italian Prime Minister continued these statements and said: “At the same time, Europe should not surrender to the idea that Europe is portrayed as a useless animal. Europe is a living civilization that does not take permission for its existence, even from the institutions that govern it. “Freedom has a price, and my party has always preferred costly freedom to even more costly surrender.”
Meloni, who faces a general election in 2027, also insisted his coalition remains united despite differences over continuing Italian aid to Ukraine.
He said: “This coalition, which includes the center-right parties “Forza Italia” and the populist parties “League”, will remain in power until the end of the legislative period. “Also, many are hoping that the debate between the government parties will degenerate and send the government home, but something tells me that won’t happen.”
The Italian prime minister, who will take office in late 2022 and has led one of Italy’s longest-running governments with the support of financial markets, also ignored the opposition’s recent victories in two regional elections.
He said: “The opposition hopes that the majority will disintegrate from within because it has always been like this for them.” “In our coalition, we argue to find common ground, as we always have.”
In the end, Giorgia Meloni pledged to push through reforms to strengthen the prime minister’s powers and urged Italians to focus on the content of the upcoming referendum on judicial reform.
