According to the Mehr News Agency, citing the North Korean State News Agency (KCNA), a welcoming ceremony was held for the officers and combat troops of the 528th Engineer Regiment of this country who were sent to the Kursk region of Russia on the border of Ukraine.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said at the welcoming ceremony for the troops returning from the war in Ukraine: I sincerely welcome the return of all the officers and soldiers of this regiment to the country. In carrying out your overseas mission, you displayed the heroic spirit of our army and its specialized capabilities and performed your combat duties with full responsibility.
He emphasized: In early August, you engineers of this regiment were sent to the Kursk region in the Russian Federation; The area that your comrades had recaptured by sacrificing their lives and you achieved brilliant results during the combat missions there.
The leader of North Korea also announced that nine soldiers “died during the execution of combat operations” and added that it has been decided to award them the title of Hero of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
On June 27, the Russian Security Council quoted its secretary Sergei Shoigu as saying that the leader of North Korea has decided to send 1,000 combat engineers and 5,000 military personnel to help rebuild the Kursk region.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also said on November 23 that Russia appreciates the “selfless and heroic” assistance of North Korean engineers in the demining operation in the Kursk region.
In the summer of 1403, Russia and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea signed a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement, which includes a clause on mutual assistance in the event of an armed attack on either side.
