Russian Ambassador: Venezuela is ready to repel any possible aggression
Russia’s ambassador to Venezuela said the Latin American country does not want war, but is fully prepared to repel any possible aggression given the actions of the United States in the Caribbean.
According to Isna, “Sergei Malik-Baghdasarov”, the Russian ambassador to Venezuela, said on Wednesday evening, referring to Washington’s military actions against Caracas: “Venezuelan people do not want any aggression, conflict or intervention.”
According to the report of “Ryanovsky” News agency, the Russian diplomat emphasized: “Various events organized by the government are held in Caracas several times a week, and Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro gives a speech in them. “These are marches against war and in support of peace, in which strong statements are made about Venezuela’s readiness to completely repel any attack.”
Tensions between Washington and Caracas have escalated in recent months, and the United States has carried out numerous military and security operations in the Caribbean and around Venezuela.
Earlier, Western media reported citing people who were involved in the negotiations of the US President Donald Trump’s administration regarding a possible attack on Venezuela: “The primary targets could be drug-related facilities, including production or storage facilities used by Colombian cartels that transport cocaine through Venezuela.”
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has repeatedly mentioned that the increase in US military presence in the region is aimed at “overthrow” him.
