According to RCO News Agency, quoted by Sputnik, the 46th Summit of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council started today in Bahrain under the chairmanship of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
Informed sources announced that in this summit, the unity of monetary policies, the development of joint projects and the strengthening of internal trade between these countries will be discussed and emphasized.
As stated by these sources, strengthening of defense coordination, protection of maritime navigation, dealing with regional threats such as developments in the Red Sea and fighting terrorism will also be discussed in this meeting.
This summit is being held while geopolitical changes, economic challenges and technological developments are taking place rapidly, and for this reason, it is highly sensitive. The focus of this summit is to strengthen the economic programs of the Persian Gulf countries, develop the digital program, develop the defense and security cooperation system, coordinate economic and financial policies, and activate joint initiatives.
Earlier, Al-Sharq news site in a report examined the goals of the Gulf Cooperation Council summit in Manama and wrote: This summit will be held in the midst of significant security and political challenges, including Israel’s 12-day aggression against Iran, the cessation of the war in Gaza, significant developments in Syria, and the strengthening of relations with major powers.
The purpose of this summit is to unify the positions of the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf, strengthen the common defense and redefine the role of this council in the region in the framework of the balance between America and China.
Bahraini international political consultant Ahmed Al-Khazaei told Al-Sharq that this summit will be held after a year full of historical events since the summit of the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf in Kuwait.
He added: These events make the Manama Summit a focal point for re-evaluating positions and unifying views. The importance of the Manama summit is that it is held after a series of crises and wars that shook the region. This requires the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf to act collectively to reformulate their priorities and strengthen their internal unity.
Al-Khazaei also explained about the exceptional nature of the Manama summit: this summit will be held in the shadow of the intermingling of security and political challenges – from Israel’s military aggression to Iran, military aggression to Qatar, stopping the war against Gaza and changes in Syria to developments in international relations with America and China. These challenges make the regional space more complicated than ever.
He stated: Considering these events and developments, the Manama summit adds to the solutions by coordinating positions and presenting joint initiatives to strengthen stability and emphasizes that the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council can be part of the solution and not only be affected by crises. This establishes the role of this council as a key player in creating regional balances.
Al-Khazaei added: Stopping the war against Gaza is a political and humanitarian achievement that shows the ability of regional and international parties to exert pressure in order to reduce tension and calm the situation.
