Rubio: The meeting with the Ukrainians was fruitful, but there is still much work to be done
The US Secretary of State called the meeting with the Ukrainian delegation in Florida “very fruitful”, but said that many measures must be taken to resolve the crisis.
According to Isna, on Sunday evening in Florida, the negotiations between the Ukrainian and American delegations about the plan to end the war in Ukraine ended.
After this meeting, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rostam Umerov spoke to the media.
According to Rubio, the meeting was very productive, but “there is still a lot of work to be done.”
According to the report of Agence France-Presse, the American diplomat emphasized: “For a solution, long-term security guarantees for Kiev are necessary, and Russia must be part of the equation.”
“The United States is realistic about the process of negotiations on Ukraine,” he said, adding that “the negotiations in Florida are not only related to the immediate resolution of the crisis, but also guarantee the future of Ukraine.”
“We’re realistic about how difficult this all looks, but we’re also realistic about the progress that’s been made so far,” Rubio said. “It’s not just about ending the war, it’s about building a prosperous future for Ukraine.”
He added that “there is another side and Mr. (Steve) Witkoff (the US’s chief negotiator) will go to Moscow soon.”
Ukraine’s chief negotiator also said they had concluded a “difficult but fruitful” meeting in Florida and announced “tangible progress” toward a “just peace.”
Amerov thanked Washington for its support and “interest in a common outcome” and made the meeting “substantial and successful.”
“There is still a long way to go, and consultations and coordination of the next steps for peace in Ukraine will continue,” he admitted.
Meanwhile, CNN reported that the dialogue between the delegations was difficult but very productive.
This meeting was held before the trip of the American delegation to Moscow to talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the revised American peace plan.
