Orban warns of “political earthquake” in Europe

According to RCO News Agency, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that admitting Ukraine’s defeat in the conflict with Russia will cause a “political earthquake” in Europe. He warned that Western leaders were preparing to send in troops and allow “this conflict to turn into a business.”

Orban made these statements a day after his unexpected trip to Moscow, during which he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and discussed Ukraine, trade and energy.

Despite the diplomatic sanctions of the European Union, he said that Hungary did not give in to the pressure to cut ties with Russia and again offered to host peace talks.

He pointed out in a speech on Saturday that admitting the failure of Ukraine and that this situation cannot continue will cause a fundamental earthquake in European politics.

Orban went on to warn that “the West is increasingly receptive to direct intervention” and said: “First they gave money, then they gave weapons, and now it is clear that if it is really necessary, they will send troops.”

According to the report of Rasha Todi, Hungary has so far refused to provide weapons or troops to Ukraine and has repeatedly called for a ceasefire. Orban’s government has repeatedly clashed with the leaders of NATO and EU member states over its position.

The Hungarian Prime Minister believes that diplomacy has become a victim of the defense sector in this conflict. Referring to France’s agreement with Kiev to buy 100 warplanes and German weapons factories to be built in Ukraine, he noted: “Business circles linked to the military industry have an increasing influence on politics.”

Orban also stated that the West managed to prevent a peace agreement in the beginning of the war and this action has ultimately harmed Ukraine. “The West prevented the Ukrainians from reaching an agreement, saying that time is on their side,” he said. But it turned out that this is not the case.”

Referring to the initial agreement reached during the Istanbul negotiations, he added: “They are in a worse position today than when they reached an agreement in April 2022.”

Kyiv unilaterally withdrew from those negotiations.
