The US Senate is investigating Heggst’s order to attack boats in the Caribbean
A US Senate committee is investigating reports of the war secretary’s order to attack boats in the Caribbean that Washington claims were carrying drugs.
According to RCO News Agency, US Senators Roger Wicker and Jack Reid promised in a statement on Saturday to seriously monitor the order of US Secretary of War Pete Hegst to kill all passengers on boats suspected of carrying drugs throughout the Caribbean and Pacific.
“The committee has referred an investigation to (the Department of Defense) and we will conduct close monitoring to determine the facts surrounding these circumstances,” they said.
According to the Anatolia News agency, Wicker, the Republican chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Reid, a Democrat on the committee, said in a statement that they will investigate a report alleging that Hegst ordered the shooting of all aboard a suspected drug-trafficking boat in September.
“The committee is aware of recent news reports and the initial response from the Department of Defense regarding subsequent alleged attacks on vessels suspected of carrying narcotics in the SOUTHCOM area of responsibility,” the statement continued.
The Washington Post on Friday reported details of a military raid off the coast of Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean that killed 11 people aboard a boat Washington said was suspected of drug trafficking.
According to the American media report, Admiral Frank Bradley ordered a second attack to kill the two survivors in order to carry out Hogst’s instructions after the first attack.
The source, who spoke to the newspaper on condition of anonymity, claimed that Hegst had ordered the killing of everyone on the boat.
