Argentina nominated Grossi to be the next Secretary-General of the United Nations
Argentina has announced that Rafael Grossi, the current Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, has been nominated as its candidate for the position of the next Secretary General of the United Nations.
According to RCO News Agency, Grossi – an Argentinian diplomat who was Buenos Aires’ ambassador to Austria between 2013 and 2019 – has been the head of the UN nuclear watchdog since late 2019.
In a statement, Argentina’s Foreign Minister Pablo Girno said Grossi was “recognized internationally for the extraordinary work he has done at the agency,” adding that it showed his “great ability to lead in the face of serious situations that threaten international peace and security.”
