Former CIA colleague in Afghanistan, suspect in Washington shooting
After the suspect in the shooting of National Guard members in Washington was identified as an Afghan national, the US President asked the government to re-examine the status of Afghan immigrants who entered the US during the previous administration.
According to Isna, the US Department of Homeland Security announced in a statement that “Rahmanullah Lakanwal”, a 29-year-old Afghan citizen who entered the United States in accordance with the policies of former US President Joe Biden, which allowed Afghan citizens to stay in the United States after the US withdrawal from the country in 2021, is suspected of shooting two National Guard forces near the White House on Wednesday evening.
According to CNN, US immigration officials granted Lakanwal asylum earlier this year.
However, Fox News reported that the suspect in the shooting in Washington had previously cooperated with American agencies in the CIA attack in Afghanistan as a member of the “collaborative force” in Kandahar.

The shooting occurred near the Farragut West subway station in Washington, the capital of the United States, and near the White House, leaving two members of the National Guard in critical condition.
US President Donald Trump called this incident a “terrorist act” and added: “We must now re-examine the status of each and every foreign national who entered our country from Afghanistan during the Biden presidency.”
Shortly after Trump’s order, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced in a statement that it had indefinitely suspended the processing of all immigration applications for Afghan nationals.
The organization noted that the safety and protection of the American land and people will remain our primary focus and mission.
The suspect, who is now in custody, was also shot and had injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, according to a US security official who asked not to be named.

Donald Trump, speaking from Palm Beach, Florida, also said he was determined to make sure whoever committed the crime paid the heaviest price possible.
“Just as we are filled with grief and sorrow for those who have been shot, we are also filled with anger and determination,” he added.
The US president also used the opportunity to attack Biden’s immigration policies, calling the shooting the result of lax vetting of immigrants from Afghanistan, a country he described as a “hell hole on earth.”
