Aoun’s stance on the signing of the agreement on the delineation of the maritime borders of Lebanon with Cyprus – Mehr News agency RCO News Agency
According to RCO News Agency, quoted by Al Jazeera, during the visit of the President of Cyprus Nicos Christodoulides to Lebanon, the two countries signed an agreement on the demarcation of maritime borders.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said in a joint press conference with his Cypriot counterpart Christodoulides after signing the agreement: “The drawing of maritime borders with Cyprus will allow us to explore common resources.”
He added: Lebanon is looking forward to strengthening joint strategic agreements with the European Union.
Pointing to the intention of Lebanon and Cyprus to implement joint projects in the fields of defense, security and energy, Aoun stated: We clearly demand the completion of maritime memorandums and the abandonment of the language of violence and hegemonic politics.
In this news conference, the President of Lebanon emphasized the massive fight against illegal immigration through the Mediterranean Sea.
He said: Lebanon’s cooperation with Cyprus is not against anyone and it will not prevent cooperation with any other country.
The President of Cyprus also stated in this news conference: Cyprus and Lebanon will continue to trust and respect each other and strengthen the stability of the region.
He described the drawing of maritime borders between Lebanon and Cyprus as a strategic achievement and a strong political message.
