The meeting of the US Secretary of the Army with the Russian officials on the axis of peace in Ukraine
The American media quoted an official written by the country’s army minister on Monday in Abu Dhabi, met with the Russian delegation in order to speed up the peace process in Ukraine.
According to RCO News Agency, an anonymous official has told the American media that US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, who had a meeting with NATO commanders in Kiev about the country’s proposed plan for peace in Ukraine, met with Russian officials on Monday in Abu Dhabi and plans to continue the talks on Tuesday.
CBS reported with this quote: On Monday evening, Driscoll met with members of the Russian delegation in Abu Dhabi for several hours.
He plans to meet with them again on Tuesday afternoon (today) in order to discuss the peace process and accelerate progress in the peace talks.
The composition of the American delegation is not yet known.
The Atlantic magazine previously reported that the European officials in the meeting with Drebskool in Kiev were upset about the provisions of the US peace plan, which includes the creation of a demilitarized zone on the front line of Ukraine, ceding territory and limiting the number of Ukrainian army forces, as well as not participating in the drafting of this plan.
The United States this week presented Ukraine with its new plan to end the conflict with Russia, and is now pressuring Kiev to accept the plan on Thursday.
This 28-point plan includes various provisions that have long been rejected by Kyiv and its Western supporters; Ukraine should withdraw its forces from the parts of the Donbas region it still controls, reduce its military strength, and abandon its request to join NATO.
According to media reports, Washington will deny Kiev military aid and information sharing if this plan is rejected.
Earlier, the Bloomberg News agency, citing informed sources, wrote that Kiev’s supporters in the European Union are seeking fundamental reforms in the plan, which the Ukrainian president has described as a choice between losing national honor by accepting its difficult provisions and losing a key partner.
Russian President Vladimir Putin told Russia’s Security Council on Friday that the U.S. proposal could serve “as a basis for a final peace agreement,” though he claimed the U.S. had not yet discussed the details of the proposal with Russia.
Putin said: “Russia is ready for peace negotiations and peaceful resolution of problems. But this requires a fundamental discussion on all the details of the proposed plan.
