Burrell: America is no longer an ally of Europe, something must be done
The former EU foreign policy official wrote that Brussels can no longer look at Washington as an ally and must respond appropriately to the change in American policy.
According to RCO News Agency, “Joseph Burrell”, the former head of the European Union’s foreign policy, poured clean water on the hands of his fellow citizens in an article on the X social network and wrote that Europeans should react appropriately to the new conditions and the change in American policies.
Burrell considered US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Ukraine as “a sign of the failure of Europe’s appeasement strategy” and wrote: “Taking in to Trump’s demands in terms of military spending, tariffs, digital deregulation, multinational tax and energy has not yielded any results.”
Referring to Trump’s 28-point plan to end the war in Ukraine, which was reportedly prepared without consulting Europe, Burrell wrote: “The United States can no longer be considered an ally of Europe; Because it is not consulted even in issues that affect Europe’s own security.
The former European diplomat wrote in the end: “Europe should accept this change in American policy and show an appropriate reaction.”
The Financial Times also reported, quoting a European official, that Europe is preparing to end Trump’s support for Kiev.
The Guardian reported earlier, quoting a source, that the United States is pressuring Kiev to agree to the peace agreement proposed by Washington and threatened that the terms of the agreement could be much worse in the future.
However, the US and Ukraine have said they are continuing to work on a “revised” peace plan to end the war with Russia.
