Reuters: Europe proposed changes to Trump’s peace plan
British media reported that European officials have presented a revised version of the US peace plan for Ukraine that postpones some of its provisions.
According to RCO News Agency, so far the American and Ukrainian sides have shown a positive reaction to the negotiations, and both sides have emphasized that “good progress” has been achieved in the Geneva negotiations.
According to a document seen by Reuters on Sunday evening, Europeans have presented a revised version of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Ukraine that postpones proposed limits on armed forces and territorial concessions to Kiev.
The document states: “The number of Ukrainian military forces in peacetime should be limited to 800,000 people, not 600,000 people as proposed by the US plan.”
The document also states: “Negotiations on territorial exchanges will start from the contact line, not pre-determining that certain areas should be recognized as “de facto Russia”; As the US plan suggests.”
A source familiar with the matter told the document: “The counter-offer was drawn up by European powers Britain, France and Germany. “Also, the document takes the US proposal as a baseline, but moves forward step by step with suggested deletions or changes.”
“Ukraine should receive a security guarantee from the United States similar to Article 5 of NATO, and also rejects the U.S. proposal to use blocked Russian assets in the West, mainly in the European Union,” the document stressed.
“Ukraine will be fully rehabilitated and financially compensated, including through Russian sovereign assets that will remain frozen until Russia compensates Ukraine,” the document concluded.
