Washington denied presenting Russia’s “list of demands” as Ukraine’s plan
In response to some senators’ claims that the Secretary of State told them that the president’s peace plan for Ukraine is a “list of demands” from Russia, Washington emphasized that this plan is official government policy.
According to Isna, the controversy over Trump’s 28-point peace plan for Ukraine, including the transfer of territory to Russia, is one of the most discussed components of this plan.
Agence France-Presse reported: US President Donald Trump is seeking the acceptance of this plan by Ukraine and has pressured the Ukrainians to accept it in the coming days. The negotiators are going to meet in Switzerland today (Sunday) and discuss this peace plan.
However, after a series of criticisms that the proposal was entirely in Moscow’s favor, several US senators addressed the issue on Saturday at a press conference at the International Security Forum in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Senators such as Mike Rounds, Angus King and Jane Shaheen said that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told them that the current Ukraine peace plan is not the US position but a “list of Russian demands”.
“What he (Rubio) told us was that this was not an American proposal,” said Senator Rounds, referring to Trump’s diplomatic envoy Steve Witkoff. It was an offer received by someone representing Russia. This offer was made to Witkoff. This is not our suggestion. This is not our peace plan.”
While confirming these statements, Senator King said: “The proposed 28-article plan, which according to Rubio is not the government’s position, is basically a wish list of Russians that is now presented to Europeans and Ukrainians.”
Senator Shahin also said that he and Senator Rounds spoke with Rubio during his trip to Geneva for talks with Ukrainian officials.
