Russia: Western approach towards Iran’s nuclear program is destructive
The representative of Russia in the International Atomic Energy Agency, criticizing the approach of the European troika and the United States towards Iran, said: the facts of the Director General’s report are not important; They pursue their destructive goals against Iran within the framework of the Council of Governors.
According to Isna, the delegation of the Russian Federation announced at the meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency that the recent report of the Director General of the Agency on the “NPT safeguards agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran” does not contain any request for immediate action or the issuance of a resolution.
“We found nothing in the Director-General’s report that could be interpreted as a request for new instructions or emergency measures, including the adoption of a resolution,” the Russian statement said. Also, such a request was not made by the director general.
This board added: “On the contrary, the report shows that the Agency and Iran have been able to find common grounds for continuing the implementation of safeguards even in the current very difficult situation. During the reporting period, Tehran allowed IAEA inspectors access to sites that were not affected by the illegal and unprovoked US-Israeli strikes in June. The report also emphasizes that the difficult conditions after these attacks made constructive cooperation between Iran and the Agency necessary for the implementation of safeguards obligations, and Iran has begun the process of cooperation.
Referring to the countries presenting the recent anti-Iranian resolution in the Council of Governors, including Britain, Germany, America and France, the Russian delegation stated: “For these four countries, the facts of the report are not important; “They pursue their destructive goals against Iran within the framework of the Council of Governors.”
This statement also considered one of the “serious flaws” of Grossi’s report as the lack of explicit condemnation of the attacks by the United States and the Zionist regime against the nuclear facilities under the protection of the agency and added: “The agency, both its members and the secretariat, have not been able to provide an appropriate response to these illegal actions in the past five months. “Deliberate destruction of peaceful nuclear facilities appears to be becoming commonplace, while perpetrators and their accomplices continue to escalate tensions by abusing total immunity.”
At the end, the Russian delegation once again announced its “strong condemnation” of the US and Israeli attacks against Iran’s nuclear facilities under IAEA protection and described these actions as “irresponsible and aggressive” that violate international law, the UN Charter and the IAEA’s statutes.
Russia warned that the serious consequences of these attacks for the IAEA defense system and the NPT treaty have not yet been assessed.
