Hamas’s reaction to the approval of the resolution proposed by the United States on Gaza in the Security Council
The Hamas movement declared that the resolution proposed by the US “not only does not meet the political and humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people, but also imposes a mechanism of international guardianship on Gaza and pursues goals that the occupying regime did not achieve in previous wars.”
According to RCO News Agency, in a statement released on Tuesday morning, the Hamas movement rejected the approval of the US proposal regarding Gaza in the UN Security Council and considered it to be contrary to the rights and demands of the Palestinian nation.
13 countries voted in favor of this resolution and Russia and China abstained.
According to Reuters, “the adoption of the UN resolution is crucial to legitimize a transitional governance body and provide reassurance to countries considering sending troops to Gaza.”
Hamas, however, announced in a statement that this resolution “not only does not respond to the political and humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people, but also imposes a mechanism of international guardianship on the Gaza Strip and pursues goals that the occupying regime did not achieve in previous wars.”
This movement emphasized that the recent decision separates Gaza from the rest of Palestine and prevents the realization of the right to self-determination and the formation of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
It is stated in this statement: Resistance against occupation is a legitimate right guaranteed by international laws, and any discussion about weapons of resistance should remain a domestic and national issue.
Hamas also warned that entrusting missions such as disarming the resistance to international forces would destroy their neutrality and turn them into a party in the conflict for the benefit of the occupier.
Emphasizing the necessity of facilitating humanitarian aid and opening the crossings, this movement called for the immediate action of the United Nations and its affiliated institutions, especially UNRWA, to deal with the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
In the end, Hamas asked the international community and the Security Council to restore the “validity of international law and human values” and to make decisions that would achieve justice for Gaza and the Palestinian issue; including “the complete cessation of war, reconstruction, the end of the occupation and the realization of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the formation of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.”
