Politico: The European Union does not trust Witkoff
The American media reported that EU officials believe that the special envoy of the US president is not aware of the details of the war in Ukraine and they do not trust this American official in this direction.
According to Isna, the war in Ukraine will enter its fourth year this winter, and there is still no prospect for peace and resolution, while the President of the United States, Donald Trump, promised many times before the start of his presidency that he would be able to quickly end this war, but now he himself acknowledges the difficulty and complexity of this crisis.
“Politico” magazine wrote on Monday in a report citing what some EU officials said: “EU officials believe that Steve Wittkoff, the special envoy of the US president, does not understand all the details of the Russia-Ukraine war.”
This American media emphasized: “EU officials are shocked that Witkoff does not understand the complexities of the Russian-Ukrainian war.”
A senior European official told Politico: “The European Union has no confidence in Witkoff on this matter and is not sure if the American official can even relay messages reliably and accurately between Moscow and Washington.”
He added: “For this reason, European leaders are eager to talk and consult directly with Trump himself as much as possible and with the presence of as many of them as possible.”
In April, Reuters reported, citing sources, that Steve Witkoff advised President Trump to cede several regions of Ukraine to Russia, which Witkoff apparently argued would be the “fastest path to peace.”
According to Reuters sources, this conversation between Witkoff and Trump took place after the meeting of the special envoy of the US president with Kirill Dmitriev, the special representative of the Russian president for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries and the CEO of the Russian Investment Fund.
Politico previously reported, citing sources, that Witkoff wants the United States to lift energy sanctions against Russia.
