According to Isna, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, announced that the completion of the construction project of what is called the “Trump Road for International Peace and Prosperity” is near in this country.

Background of the agreement of the parties
Ryanovsi News agency also wrote in this regard: After Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan met with US President Donald Trump in Washington, on August 8, 2025, a statement was issued by the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan on the initial signing of an agreed text on the establishment of peace and intergovernmental relations between the two countries.
Yerevan also agreed to cooperate with the US and third parties to build this route.
This route envisages the liberalization of transport links between the mainland of Azerbaijan and the isolated region of Nakhchivan through Armenia.
Pashinyan said on August 9 that the route includes potential oil and gas pipelines, power lines and internet cables, and a railway between Yerevan and Baku along the border with Iran.
This railway, which has existed since the time of the Soviet Union, runs along the northern bank of the Aras River, including through the town of Moghri in Sivnik province in southern Armenia.
The traffic in the Mughri section of this railway, which is 45 km long, was stopped in the early 1990s due to the armed conflict in Karabagh.
The rails of this section were then dismantled and in the more eastern parts, they went under water when the reservoir of the Khoda Afrin hydroelectric dam on the border of Iran was filled.

Construction of Trump’s path in the second half of 2026
Last week, Pashinian announced about the construction stages of this construction project: all the details should be determined on paper by the end of this year. We plan to reach a final agreement in the first half of 2026 and start construction in the second half of the same year.
The project’s rail line will run through the same route that existed during the Soviet Union, as it is “unrealistic” to build a new line in the other section.
Pashinyan emphasized that this process is based on the principles contained in the “Washington Declaration”, which include territorial integrity, national sovereignty, jurisdiction, reciprocity and border immunity.
The Prime Minister of Armenia added that this project is one of the main parts of the Armenian government’s plan titled “Crossroads of Peace” and its purpose is to ensure the connection between the main part of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan region.
