Moscow: The road to peace passes through Alaska, even if Ukraine does not like it
The aide of the Russian president announces the continuation of calls for a meeting between Putin and Trump, and considers the Anchorage understandings as a path to a peaceful resolution of Ukraine, although Kiev has opposed these agreements.
According to RCO News Agency, Yuri Ushakov, the assistant of Russian President Vladimir Putin, said on Sunday that the meeting between Putin and US President Donald Trump has been postponed for some time, but the calls are still ongoing. He pointed out that apparently the parties had already agreed on a meeting in Budapest.
According to Ushakov, if Putin and Trump agree on holding the meeting, many technical problems in organizing this summit will be sidelined.
According to Rashatodi, the assistant of the Russian president says that Moscow believes that the understandings reached in Anchorage, Alaska, have opened a “good path” for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.
However, he says that the understandings reached between Putin and Trump in Alaska have been communicated to the Ukrainian side, but they “don’t like it.”
According to Ushakov, the United States has not officially declared that the agreements reached in Anchorage are no longer valid. “The Anchorage meeting remains the basis of all comments and signals received from the United States on the Ukraine issue,” he added.
Ushakov said in an interview with Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin on Sunday: “We are conducting active negotiations on the settlement of Ukraine based on the understandings reached in Anchorage. Many comments and signals about Ukraine are coming from Washington, but Russia will continue to rely on these understandings. There are many signals, some we like, some we don’t, but the basis of it all is Anchorage. “These understandings are a good path for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.”
“Decisions made in Anchorage have been transferred to Ukraine, however, Kiev did not like it,” the Putin aide added. Those who want hostilities to continue in Ukraine ‘to the last Ukrainian’ are against the Anchorage accords.”
