From tactical agreement to strategic conflict; Consequences of “Cold War” between America and China – Mehr News agency RCO News Agency
According to the Mehr News Agency, quoted by Al Jazeera, “Watch calmly, face problems calmly, hide your brilliance like a sword in a scabbard, work in silence and wait for the opportunity.” This is the strategy that Deng Xiaoping has invited the people of his country to achieve renaissance.
Referring to the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Al Jazeera wrote that these technical agreements will undoubtedly face the high wall of politics and its complex problems, so we cannot expect to solve all the differences between the two countries, and the only thing that can be achieved is an agreement to prevent the deterioration of economic relations between the two countries in the short term, while strategic differences remain pending.
China; A country that is more than a competitor for America
It is no longer acceptable to talk about the competition between China and the US, especially when the US classifies its potential enemies in three levels (competitor, challenge and threat) and now considers China to be the main source of threat.
According to Al Jazeera, what is happening between China and America is a competition to reach the top. In this arena, delaying a potential confrontation is a solid achievement for Beijing, as time is on its side and all economic, political and military indicators confirm this point. Therefore, the more China can postpone the decisive confrontation, the less its losses will be for it.
Cold war between America and China
Al-Jazeera called the “Cold War” between America and China more dangerous and deeper than the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union in the previous millennium and stated that the size of the Soviet economy at that time did not exceed 40% of the size of the American economy, while the size of the Chinese economy is approaching its American counterpart, or according to many estimates, if we consider the exchange rate and purchasing power of the Chinese yuan, it will surpass it.
During the Cold War, many countries of the world were outside of that conflict, but today all countries will be affected, because the volume of international economic interactions has increased and the effects of this tension will be transferred to other countries.
The difference between the American and Chinese governance models
The new cold war is between China and the United States; A war that reaches the level of a multilateral conflict, during which each side seeks to weaken the other. China wants to be the leader in the world. In this way, China does not want to repeat the American model in hegemony over the world. America’s philosophy in leading the world was based on the “principle of power” which was established by the theory of realism in international relations, while China seeks to establish the “theory of dependence” which is based on the principle of cooperation and convergence between countries so that all parties achieve a “win-win” equation.
Self-made is not a plan
The Chineseization of international trade made Washington live in the commercial world that China had built. On the other hand, America believes that it is facing an enemy of its own making. President Nixon and his Secretary of State Kissinger were the first to bring American factories to China to separate it from the Soviet Union.
Bill Clinton also supported China joining the World Trade Organization, and during his time, most of the American and Western factories were moved to China. This trend continued under George Bush Jr. and Obama.
30% of the world’s industries are “Chinese”.
The size of China’s economy did not exceed 347 billion dollars in 1989, while it exceeded 20 trillion dollars in 2024, that is, it increased more than 57 times in three decades. A large part of China’s economy is based on exports, and Beijing accounts for 30% of the added value of the world’s industries, meaning that 30% of the world’s industries come from China, which is a very large number. Also, China’s exports are increasing at a rate equal to three times the growth of international trade.
China’s armament growth rate is beyond that of the whole world
China has embarked on its fastest armament process not only in this era, but in all of history, and is paying attention to the development of its naval capabilities, the United States currently has 380 ships, while the United States only has 300 ships. On the other hand, the United States accuses China of economic espionage at home and abroad, especially in the countries surrounding the United States (Canada and Mexico), and of recruiting some of the top politicians of these countries.
Washington also accuses China of launching cyberwars against some American institutions and claims that China is seeking to dominate American and European factories in China, which are estimated to be worth trillions of dollars. This makes the possibility of any military war against China almost impossible.
80% of rare elements are monopolized by China
More than 80% of the 17 rare elements, 7 of which are very important for advanced industries – from mobile phones to electric cars and drones, etc. – are in the possession of China, which has banned the export of 7 of them to the United States.
Convergence of China with India, Russia and its danger for America
Al Jazeera writes that there is a lot of evidence about the birth of a new axis between Moscow, Beijing and New Delhi. A few weeks before the recent trilateral meeting in Tianjin, the Indian Prime Minister visited Beijing on his first trip after seven years of severed ties and border disputes. China has strengthened its trade cooperation with India, facilitated the issuance of visas between the two sides, and resumed flights between the two countries after years of suspension.
The sending of Russian oil shipments to India not only did not stop due to US sanctions, but also increased unprecedentedly; As far as “John Bolton” said: the most dangerous threat that threatens America in the 21st century is not only China, but the trilateral axis that includes Beijing, Moscow and New Delhi.
In his speech at the United Nations, Donald Trump also warned against the new alliance between China, Russia and India, claiming the participation of China and India in financing Russia in the war in Ukraine. These are just some of the reasons that made Trump turn to Asia to perhaps find a solution to his country’s intractable problems in confrontation with China.
