New York Times: “Mindic” corruption scandal damaged Zelensky’s reputation
The New York Times reported on Friday that an investigation into Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s inner circle “threatens domestic and foreign support for him.”
According to RCO News Agency, Ukraine has changed drastically following one of the biggest wartime corruption scandals, and this issue is related to the raid of inspectors on the homes of senior officials and one of Zelenskiy’s former business partners.
Ukraine’s main anti-corruption agencies say they have uncovered a high-level scheme involving corruption at the Ukrainian nuclear energy company Energotem.
The National Anti-Corruption Agency of Ukraine also announced that it has arrested five people in this case and informed seven other people from this organization that they have been suspended from their positions. These people include a businessman who is the head of a criminal organization, a former adviser to the Minister of Energy, as well as a former deputy prime minister of Ukraine.
The agency did not mention the names of these people, but the Ukrainian media mentioned the name of one who was a former business partner and close aide of Zelenskiy as “Timur Mindych”.
The New York Times reported in its report that this scandal is a “significant turnaround” for Zelensky; The one who once promised to fight corruption and build a transparent government.
This newspaper went on to write in a sarcastic sentence: “Of course, for others, such an event was not too surprising.”
Mindich, a wealthy businessman, owned Zelensky’s production company, Quarter 95, from his acting years until Zelensky transferred ownership after his election.
According to Ukrainian media, this businessman had previously faced accusations of abusing his connections with the president.
