President of Panama: We do not allow the use of our soil for military activity against Venezuela
Referring to the US military actions against Venezuela, the President of Panama said that Panama will not allow its territory to be used for any hostile military activity against Venezuela.
According to RCO News Agency, While the shadow of a military conflict is over Venezuela, the US Gerald Ford aircraft carrier task force has entered the Latin American region and Venezuela has warned of armed resistance.
“Panama will not allow its territory to be used for any hostile military activity against Venezuela,” Panamanian President Jose Raul Molino said in his press conference on Thursday.
Molino emphasized that the joint exercises with American forces are only under existing bilateral cooperation agreements and have nothing to do with the escalation of tension between Washington and Caracas.
“As for Venezuela, we have nothing to do with it,” he noted. “Panama does not make its territory available for any hostile action against Venezuela or any country in the world.”
US President Donald Trump ordered the dispatch of this ship last month; This action added to a series of eight warships, a nuclear submarine and F-35 fighter jets in the Caribbean Sea.
The Ford, which was commissioned in 2017, is the newest and largest aircraft carrier in the United States and the world, and serves more than five thousand sailors.
In a statement confirming the arrival of this ship, which was first published by “Reuters” News agency, the Pentagon claimed that this operation was carried out with the aim of “disrupting drug trafficking and weakening and destroying transnational criminal organizations.”
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has repeatedly indicated that the increase in US military presence in the region is aimed at “overthrow” him.
