The carrier, along with the US Navy’s 8th Air Wing and its escort ships, was tasked on October 24 to move from the Mediterranean Sea to the US Southern Command to support the increased US naval presence in that area.
Nav Gerald R. Ford crossed the Straits of Gibraltar on 4 November and was stationed with his escorts off the west coast of Africa, outside the official boundaries of the command.
According to reports, ship trackers have detected the USS Bainbridge escort destroyer off the coast of Puerto Rico. Bainbridge was also with Ford on the way to Gibraltar.
