Angela Merkel was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Israeli Weizmann Institute.
The “Weizmann” Institute of Sciences in the Occupied Territories is awarding this former German politician an honorary doctorate due to the services of former German chancellor Angela Merkel to world diplomacy and her “unwavering support for Israel”.
According to Isna, the German News agency (DPA) reported by publishing this article: The institute announced on Monday that the award was given to Merkel because of her “unparalleled contribution to global diplomacy and international partnerships”, as well as her “solidarity and friendship with Israel” and her “resolute efforts to fight anti-Semitism”.
Under Merkel’s leadership, Germany deepened its political and military ties with Israel and expanded bilateral cooperation, the institute said.
The Weizmann Institute also praised his “key role” in stabilizing Europe’s economy amid the eurozone crisis.
This institute, which is located in Rakhvut – south of Tel Aviv – is one of the leading research centers in the world. During Merkel’s farewell trip to the occupied territories in 2021, this institution named a scholarship in her name.
Merkel has often described Israel’s security as Germany’s “state interest”.
The building and grounds of this institution were severely damaged in Iran’s Sadeq 3 operation in response to the war imposed by the Zionist regime. Dozens of research buildings were destroyed, causing damage of 530 million euros ($613 million).
Merkel’s spokesperson said that no meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been planned during his trip to the occupied territories to receive his honorary doctorate.
Merkel also canceled attending the 70th birthday celebration of German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz on Tuesday because of this trip.
