The US Senate approved a package of bills to end the government shutdown
In a procedural vote, the U.S. Senate has reportedly backed a package of bills to fund the Washington government that should end the nation’s longest shutdown in history.
According to RCO News Agency, according to a report published on the website of the US Senate, in this vote, 60 senators supported the package of bills and 40 senators voted against it. Exactly 60 votes were required for the approval of this bill.
The approved package would provide funding for the work of Congress and its support services, the Department of Agriculture, including payments under the SNAP and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) food assistance programs, veterans programs and benefits, and Pentagon construction projects for fiscal year 2026.
The rest of the Washington administration’s funding will be provided through another resolution that is valid until January 30, 2026. The package also reverses the massive layoffs of federal employees that began on Oct. 1.
After the procedural vote, the Senate must hold a final vote, after which the package of bills must be approved by the House of Representatives and sent to President Donald Trump for his signature.
According to Ria Novosti, this shutdown, which began on October 1, has become the longest shutdown in the history of the United States. The previous record of the shutdown of the US government also occurred during the first term of Trump’s presidency.
