Pakistan’s Defense Minister: Islamabad and Kabul negotiations reached a dead end – Mehr News Agency | RCO News Agency
According to RCO News Agency, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said in an interview with “Jeo News” about the negotiations in Istanbul after the border clashes with Afghanistan: the negotiations between the two countries have been suspended due to uncertain results.
Pakistan’s Defense Minister stated that the third round of negotiations that started yesterday with Kabul did not yield any results, adding that a complete deadlock has been created. The negotiations have entered an uncertain stage.
Khawaja Mohammad Asif thanked Turkey and Qatar for their “honest efforts” to reduce the tension between Islamabad and Kabul and said: they support our position. Even the Afghan delegation agreed with us, but they were not ready to sign a written agreement.
He then emphasized that Pakistan accepts only formal and written agreements and said: The other party wanted to accept oral guarantees, but this is not acceptable in international negotiations.
Referring to the full efforts of Turkey and Qatar in this direction, Pakistan’s defense minister said: “If there was even an iota of optimism, they would have asked us to stay in the negotiations.” The fact that we returned without any achievements shows that even they have given up hope on Kabul.
Emphasizing that Pakistan’s position in this tension is firm and clear, Asif added that Islamabad’s only desire is to ensure that Afghanistan’s soil is not used to attack Pakistan.
Pakistan’s defense minister also warned that Pakistan would respond to the moves and emphasized that the ceasefire would remain in place if no attack took place.
