The Security Council canceled the sanctions against Jolani
The United Nations Security Council canceled the sanctions against the head of the transitional period of Syria.
According to Isna, the United Nations Security Council on Thursday agreed to a resolution proposed by the United States to lift sanctions against “Abu Mohammad Al-Jolani” known as “Ahmed al-Shara”, the self-proclaimed leader of Syria.
Al-Jolani was one of the leaders of al-Qaeda.
The text of the resolution states: “(The Council) decides to remove Ahmad Al-Shara and “Anas Khattab”, the Syrian Minister of Interior, from the list of sanctions related to ISIS and Al-Qaeda.”
This resolution was approved by 14 members of the council and China abstained.
According to AFP, the official lifting of sanctions against al-Sharia is largely symbolic, as the restrictions were suspended every time he needed to travel abroad as “Syrian President”. Also, asset embargo and arms embargo will be lifted.
US President Donald Trump is going to host Jolani on November 10. He had previously claimed that al-Jolani had made “good progress” in the path of establishing peace in his war-torn country.
Although this will be Jolani’s first visit to Washington, it will be his second visit to the United States. The first trip took place in September, within the framework of the United Nations meeting.
Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly al-Nusra), an al-Qaeda-linked group headed by al-Jolani, was removed from Washington’s list of terrorist groups in July.
While the Zionist regime has occupied parts of Syria, Trump hopes that Syria will join the group of Arab countries that have normalized their relations with Tel Aviv in the framework of the so-called “Abraham Pact”.
A Syrian official previously announced in an interview with AFP that Syria expects to finalize security and military agreements with Israel in 2025.
Since December, the Zionist regime has carried out hundreds of airstrikes in Syria and Damascus has not reacted yet.
