Kremlin accuses Western media of “emotional reaction” to Putin’s comments on nuclear tests
The Kremlin spokesman emphasized that the Western media distorts Putin’s words about nuclear tests.
According to RCO News Agency, on Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin considered US President Donald Trump’s statements about nuclear tests to be a serious issue and said that the Russian ambassador to the US has sent a message to Washington to get an explanation about Trump’s statements about nuclear tests.
Putin added that the Russian Security Council has reviewed and analyzed the statements of the American authorities about the nuclear tests. Putin emphasized that Russia has always fully adhered to the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and continues to adhere to it and has no plans to abandon the provisions of this treaty.
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, when asked if there was concern that the Western media had misinterpreted the words of the president of his country as instructions to start nuclear tests, said: “Despite all our explanations, despite the president’s clear formulations, this is the continuation of such a rather emotional and overly emotional reaction by the Western media.”
He added that many of these media “do not shy away from distorting the meaning of what was said.”
On Sunday, US President Donald Trump said that the United States should conduct nuclear tests because, according to him, other countries are doing it, and he does not want the United States to be left behind. Trump pointedly pointed to tests being conducted by Russia, North Korea and, apparently, China.
Following that, the Russian president warned that if Washington tests nuclear weapons, Moscow will be forced to take appropriate countermeasures.
Also, the Kremlin spokesman mentioned on Wednesday that Moscow has no information about the type of nuclear weapons that America is planning to test.
In this regard, Dmitry Medvedev, the former president of Russia, who is currently the vice chairman of the National Security Council, wrote on Platform X on Wednesday: “Nobody knows what Trump meant by ‘nuclear test’ (probably not even himself). But he is the president of the United States. And the consequences of such words are inevitable. And Russia will have to evaluate the expediency of conducting full-scale nuclear tests by itself.”
