Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, during a meeting with Venezuelan counterparts on the sidelines of the UN meetings, stressed that Moscow is firmly opposed to the use of independent countries, according to Mehr News Agency.

“We strongly disagree to use force against independent countries as a lever in foreign policy,” he said. We declare solidarity with Venezuelan officials against increasing foreign threats and efforts to intervene in its internal affairs.

Lavrov emphasized Russia’s full support for Caracas’s efforts to protect its national sovereignty. It should be noted that recently NBC News quoted four informed sources, including four US officials, reporting that the country is preparing for attacks against Venezuela.

According to the report, potential US attacks against Venezuela are carried out on the pretext of combating drug traffickers.

Informed sources added that the attacks will probably begin in the coming weeks.

Earlier, Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro announced that popular forces across the country had been deployed to confront any threat from US invaders.
